What is Bottleneck?
Bottleneck is the process of identifying the element is slowing down the response time.
Technique to overcome Bottleneck
(1) Increasing capacity of the constraint
(2) Ensuring the well trained and cross-trained employee are able to operate and maintain the work centre causing the constraint
(3) Developing alternate rounting, processing precedure and subcontractors.
(4) Moving inspection and test to a position just before the bottleneck.
(5) Scheduling throughput to match the constraint of the bottleneck

What is 'bottleneck'?
ReplyDeleteBottleneck is situation of performance or capacity of entire system is limited by single or limited components or resources.
example: Water poured out from a bottle, the outflow is limited by the diameter or width of the bottle exit, that is bottleneck. Increase the width of bottleneck, you can increase the outflow of water.
Ket example: components short in supply, irreplaceable specific worker sick, low productivity in middle department will result bottleneck.
